DESCRIPTION:Jump on board for the latest Mohua 42 bus tour in the highly popular Sustainable Mohua series. \nOver the past few years Mohua 42 has taken people out around Golden Bay to see sustainability in action\, first on farms\, then to visit local renewable energy projects. \nThis year they are turning our attention to the places we live. \nGolden Bay/Mohua has a long history of people building differently: earth walls\, locally milled timber\, novel and cutting-edge building materials\, solar\, off-grid systems\, clever retrofits\, and homes designed to work with our climate rather than against it. \nOn this tour you’ll visit local homes and building projects\, meet the people who made them happen\, and hear their honest experience. Find out what worked\, what cost more than expected\, what they’d do differently and where can we learn and share. \nThis isn’t a showcase of unattainable dream homes. It’s a chance to see real\, liveable examples across a range of budgets and ambitions\, and to ask the questions you can’t get answered online: What did the consent process involve? Less pollutive than cremation and not wasting valuable land like cemeteries\, Natural Burial Parks create forests from burial grounds\, and essentially\, they represent a natural way of burying our dead\, which uses the valuable nutrients in the body to establish new life. They are also a way of remembering our loved ones by creating a sense of permanence in the form of a forest or park\, where people can walk and remember those who are buried there. It could almost be described as a way to live forever. \nSome questions that may come up: \n\nWhat is a natural burial? SUMMARY:Think Like a Forest: A Local Conversation - RICHMOND
DESCRIPTION:Film screening followed by a panel discussion with Prof. David Norton\, Kerensa Johnston and Elliot Easton. \nHosted by Te Tauihu Environment Trust (TET) and Kotahitanga mō te Taiao Alliance (KMTT). \nThink Like a Forest has had a big year\, and for good reason. The New Zealand documentary brings the vision of Recloaking Papatūānuku to life – a bold\, science-led initiative to restore\, regenerate\, enhance and manage over two million hectares of native forests and wetlands across Aotearoa in the next 30 years. \nJoin us for an invigorating evening with a screening of the 35 minute film\, followed by a local conversation: what does recloaking our whenua actually look like\, right here in Te Tauihu? \nAfter the film\, we’re bringing together a range of voices working on this from different angles for a panel discussion\, including  \n\nEmeritus Professor David Norton – an ecologist with a career researching and teaching at the University of Canterbury\, David is the strategic science advisor for Recloaking Papatūānuku and features in Think Like a Forest. He is passionate about better managing our native forests for biodiversity conservation and climate change resilience\, including addressing the impacts of feral ungulates.\n\n  \n\nKerensa Johnston – A lawyer\, executive and Māori governance leader with a strong interest in sustainability\, intergenerational investment and wellbeing. She served as General Counsel at Wakatū Incorporation from 2012 and then as Chief Executive from 2016-2025. Alongside other governance roles Kerensa currently chairs Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga and Ngāti Tama ki te Tau Ihu Charitable Trust\, and recently joined the Board of KMTT.\n\n  \n\nElliot Easton – a restoration and conservation practitioner working across Te Tauihu\, with a focus on native planting\, assisted natural regeneration and landscape-scale restoration. He previously managed the Restoring the Moutere: Ridge Tops to the Sea project for the Moutere Catchment Group and works to connect practical restoration with the people and communities needed to make lasting change.\n\nWe’ll explore what’s working\, what’s getting in the way\, and how our region is primed to lead the way on restoration at scale. \nRegister HERE \n\nThis event is part of Climate Action Festival 2026.
