SUMMARY:Learn how to make compost!
DESCRIPTION:The Nelson Tasman Climate Forum  is offering  a 2 hour workshop on planning and building a compost heap on site. \nThe Tutor is Rex Hunt who has run an organic plant nursery since 1980 and has focussed on making his own compost. \nRex has both 1 and 3 year old compost heaps to demonstrate how they change over time\, sequester carbon and remain aerobic. \nWe will also build one ourselves at the Workshop. This is an interactive hands- on Workshop where you will learn to construct one yourself using local and seasonal materials to enrich soil life and produce  healthy chemical free food for your family. \nWhen:  10am to 12 Noon\, Saturday  3rdJune\,  2023 \nLocation:  86 Highway 60 (Appleby Highway) WILLOWGROVE ORGANIC NURSERY (300meters up from 3Brothers corner)- Parking drive in. DESCRIPTION:Following the success of last year’s EV tradeshow during Climate Action Week\, we are please to announce that an Electric Vehicle (EV) tradeshow and test drive session will be organised again this year. \nLearn and explore what  electric vehicles and PHEV models are available in the NZ market. \nThis is your chance to ask questions\, drive an electric vehicle\, talk to EV enthusiasts about their experiences\, to make an informed decision about your next mode of transportation. \nThis event is a co-organisation of Nelson City Council and the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum. \nPlease note that this event should normally showcase only Electric cars. If you are interested by testing or presenting an Ebike during Climate Action week\, visit this page. \nAmongst the many models coming from our different car dealers\, we’ll have the pleasure to welcome the Tesla once again. Due to the expected high demand and for organisational purposes\, we’ll ask you to register here if you want to try the TESLA during our EV test drive session organised as part of the Climate Action Week (from 10 to 12pm). \nOther EV cars don’t need a prior registration\, and will be managed on a first-come\, first served basis. \n \nThis Event is going forward rain\, hail or sunshine.\n \nRemember to bring your driver’s licence if you want to test drive one of the models. SUMMARY:NEW DATE!! Food\, Water\, the Climate and You- A talk by James Renwick and Paul White
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a presentation from Professor James Renwick\, Victoria University of Wellington professor of physical geography\, and member of New Zealand’s Climate Change Commission. \nJames was one of the authors of the latest IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report\, and will be providing an overview of that report’s main findings.  His particular inputs focused on the water cycle\, and he will be discussing the implications of rapid changes to the water cycle for our crops and coastlines. \nThis is an opportunity to learn about the most up to date science and policies that relate to climate change and how we deal with one of the most significant challenges we face. \nLearn about the implications for Nelson Tasman. \nAlso to present is Paul White\, a scientist with GNS (the Crown Corporation officially known as the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Science).  Paul will briefly outline GNS’s approach to developing an energy strategy\, and seek your input to this important program. \nDoors open at 7pm for tea and chats and presentations and discussions begin at 7.30pm \nEvent is free\, but please register here. \nIf you want to carpool to the event\, please have a look here.

DESCRIPTION:The Nature and Climate group of the NTCF has been invited to make a submission to the Right Tree\, Right Place Task Force that Nelson’s mayor has established to advise Council on the future of NCC’s forestry estate. More info on the Task Force here. \nThis is a once in a generation opportunity. \nWe have been invited to submit a 1 page summary of  our position/proposal by 28th June\, followed by participation in a workshop on 5th July. \nIn this Zoom meeting (accessible here)\, we’ll be discussing a draft submission and making plans for the workshop.
