SUMMARY:Behavior change workshop: why mindset matters when making change?
DESCRIPTION:“Why mindsets and narratives matter when we have the opportunity to make change” \nWe are in a time when transforming the ways we live\, work\, play\, move\, earn and learn has enormous potential for the wellbeing of people and the planet. We can make changes that will make a big difference to us all. From redesigning our cities to enable everyone to get to where they need to go\, rethinking our economic system to centre the health of the environment and wellbeing of people\, changing how we build and distribute housing\, so all people have a warm stable home nested in vibrant creative and supportive communities\, to fully embracing the Māori intent of Te Tiriti of Waitangi. These changes\, if they are to be achieved\, require our people across public and private institutions to develop new understandings about the process\, structures and skills that are needed to support people through change. \nJoin Marianne Elliott from The Workshop talking about why understanding and shifting existing mindsets in order to create public support for these transformative changes is critical. Why it is a significant shift from business as usual\, and why it needs people in organisations doing this mahi to shift their mindsets about what is required and what to expect. Marianne will discuss why the way we talk about and communicate these changes – our narratives – are a fundamental tool in helping us build support for change in our own organisations and in the public. \nThis event is $49 + GST ($56.35 in total) to WasteMINZ members and $75 + GST ($86.25 in total) for non-WasteMINZ members. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an online film screening and panel discussion showcasing Indigenous resistance in the Sacred Headwaters\, known as the Klabona\, northwest British Columbia. \nThe Klabona Keepers (http://beyondboardingcollective.com/klabonakeepers) is an intimate portrait of the inspiring Indigenous families that succeeded in protecting their lands and waters from industrial activities. \nSpanning 15 years of matriarch-led resistance\, the film follows a small group of determined elders in the village of Iskut as they heal from colonial wounds to push back against law enforcement\, the government\, and some of the world’s largest multinational companies. Nestled between scenes of stand-offs and blockades\, land defenders reflect on how their history of forced displacement\, residential schools\, and trauma strengthened their resolve to protect the very land that was so essential to their healing journey. \nThe exclusive screening is brought to you by STARCAP\, a climate-action partnership between CCEDNet\, Synergia Institute and Athabasca University\, and will be followed by a panel discussion with youth land defenders from the Klabona Keepers. They will be sharing stories from the front lines where they successfully protected their territory from some of the world’s largest multinational mining and oil companies. \nClosed captioning and live interpretation from English to ASL (and not a pre-recorded\, edited translation)\, is available.
