SUMMARY:Nature and Climate: Meet your Candidates and hear their views.
DESCRIPTION:Nelson Tasman Climate Forum\, Forest and Bird and Tasman Environmental Trust have teamed up to host a series of Zoom sessions where both mayoral and council candidates will be invited to answer questions about the role they intend to play in advancing Nature and Climate  policies. \nThe recent weather events brought home how important it is to have representatives at the local government level who understand the causes of climate change\, and its effects\, including impacts on the many species with whom we humans share our region. \nDrawing on a set of prepared questions\, our candidates will be challenged on their Nature and climate credentials and aspirations. Then the session will be open to your questions. \nOur hope is that these sessions will give voters a useful overview of their options while highlighting to the candidates that there is a public expectation that Nature and climate change should be at the forefront of their thinking and their actions. \nIf you are interested in the protection and restoration of Nature\, and in climate change mitigation and adaptation at the local governance level\, and want to hear from the candidates on this subject\, this evening is for you! \nJoin us on Zoom (and in person for the Richmond meeting) on the following dates\, all meetings at 7-8pm: \nMotueka Ward: 2nd September: event passed. \nMayoral candidates: 4th of September : event passed. \nGolden Bay: event cancelled. \nLakes Murchison: event cancelled. \nRichmond: 11th of September : Hope Recreational Hall\, 184 Main Road – Hope. (!! this event is now in person!!). There has been a change in the arrangements for the Richmond Ward event. It will now be held in person – 7 to 8pm on September 11th\, in Hope Recreational Hall\, 184 Main Road.\, Hope\, just outside Richmond.   \nThe evening will begin with a formal Q&A for candidates\, followed by an opportunity for questions from attendees. Richmond candidates Jo Ellis\, Mark Greening\, Kit Maling\, Timo Neubauer\, and Daniel Shirley are confirmed for this Q&A. \nThis meeting will be preceded at 6.30pm by a meeting with Richmond Ward councillors on Plan Change 81\, which relates to the use of rural land for residential and industrial purposes. Land use is an aspect of the protection of Nature and Climate; all are encouraged to attend this meeting too. \nYour hosts will be Joanna Santa Barbara (NTCF)\, Scott Burnett (F&B) and Sky Davies (TET).

SUMMARY:Event POSTPONED - Planning for the Future of Nelson Tasman Together
DESCRIPTION:!! This event has been postponed to the Thursday 23rd of October =>>> New event !! \nAre you worried about sea level rise\, flooding\, earthquakes\, and bushfires? \nDo you wonder what Nelson City Council is doing about these increasing risks? \nDo you want to explore how climate change will affect where you live and what you and your community could do? \nNelson Tasman Climate Forum and Te Tauihu Community Development Agency are hosting a discussion on these matters\, with Marie Becdelievre\, Adaptation Lead for Nelson City Council. \nCome play\, ask questions\, and help shape how Nelson Tasman plans to live well as things change.\nClimate change is already reshaping life in Nelson Tasman\, but we can continue to live well by working together. Join us for an interactive evening where we’ll look at risk\, how Councils assess it\, and unpack what adapting looks like here. \nWe’ll look at ways of planning for uncertain changes and keeping our options open. We’ll make clear who can do what – individuals and community groups\, iwi\, businesses\, and government – and talk honestly about the roadblocks and the real opportunities for our people and environment. Then we’ll switch to a short game and a big Q&A: bring your questions\, stories\, and concerns so we can test ideas together and find the information or support that people need next. \n\n
