DESCRIPTION:Come and find inspiration\, information\, and examples of how to live a more resilient\, resourceful\, and regenerative life.\nDiscover how permaculture ethics and principles can help to protect and provide for a more sustainable future.\nMeet a like-minded community of people who also hope for a safe\, abundant\, and happy life but may be unsure of how to start.\n\nThis permaculture workshop will explore\, with real-life examples\, how increasing our personal resilience\, resourcefulness\, and regenerative living can mitigate some of the impacts of climate change\, and potentially make a positive difference to our own personal\, local\, and global future. \nStroll around a permaculture property\, which includes a forest garden\, and be inspired by different permaculture systems while discussing resilient\, resourceful\, and regenerative ways of producing food and other necessities. Lynda will discuss specific ways in which participants can increase their own “Resilient\, Resourceful and Regenerative” (RRR) living. Check out the solar oven. \nThe goal of this afternoon is to share\, inspire\, and create a support team so that every participant feels inspired to increase and go a step further in their own “Resilient\, Resourceful and Regenerative” (RRR) journey. \nThe workshop is run by Lynda Hannah at a small scale\, organic\, permaculture farm in Motueka growing a biodiverse range of fruit and nuts\, berries\, vegetables\, herbs\, and flowers\, as well as selling free-range eggs and a range of organic herbs for teas and culinary uses. \nRegistration is essential and can be done following this Humanitix link \nThe venue is 3km from Motueka. DESCRIPTION:Weaving Worlds through the Spirit of the Commons: Perspectives from te ao Māori and European worlds \nJoin us at the Motueka Library for an exploration of the history of commons\, their enclosure and the potential to re-animate the ethos of the commons to create a more equitable\, regenerative future for Aotearoa New Zealand. This discussion with Aneika Young and Catherine Knight\, facilitated by Jack Santa Barbara\, will draw on ancestral wisdom and contemporary practice from both te ao Māori and European worlds\, shining light on the ‘spirit of the commons’. \nWhariki mai ngā aho o te whenua. (A whakatauki evoking the deep connection between people and the environment) \nAbout the speakers:  \nAneika Young is a specialist in Māori Resource Management and Kaupapa Māori research. Aneika is Te Ao Māori Advisor\, Te Papa Ao Tūroa o Aotearoa/The Nature Conservancy New Zealand. \nDr Catherine Knight is an award‑winning environmental historian and author of six books including New Zealand’s Rivers: An environmental history\, Beyond Manapouri: 50 years of environmental politics in New Zealand and Nature and Wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand. SUMMARY:Battle for the Banded Rail - "Tender Love and Care" Plant maintenance day - Mapua
DESCRIPTION:Battle for the Banded Rail is a project working with local communities to increase the number of banded rail and other estuarine birds on the margins of the Waimea Inlet by restoring habitat and trapping predators. \nTogether\, let’s give some TLC to the plants planted in winter.  \nWe will meet at Moreland Place Reserve in Mapua. Check the flag on Moreland Place where the access goes through to the reserve. \nPlease bring gloves and drinking water.  Wear solid footwear and clothes suitable for the weather conditions.  Morning tea will be provided\, and all volunteers are welcome. \nThere is no need to register\, but if the weather is not good\, we will cancel by 8 am on the day.  However\, if it’s just doubtful or light rain\, we’ll go ahead. DESCRIPTION:Native plant restoration is climate action. \nHope school\, in collaboration with Tasman Enviroschools\, the Tasman Bay Guardians and the Roding Catchment group are growing native plants to revegetate the riparian zone along the Aniseed river. \nVegetated riparian zones help to filter out toxins and sediment from rainfall events\, while creating habitat for native ecosystems to thrive. \nThis event is for Primary school students to learn about and participate in potting up native plants for conservation. DESCRIPTION:In a split vote in July\, Nelson City Council adopted  science-based climate targets of 8.3% annual decrease for long-lived gases\, and 1.55% decrease for methane. \nVoices around the table said it couldn’t be done\, which created a challenge that was picked up by five members of  the Climate Forum. SUMMARY:Nature Journaling Workshop - Lower Moutere
DESCRIPTION:This is a workshop for those who would like to deepen their appreciation of the natural world with a pencil in hand. \nNature Journaling is the practice of observing nature\, and recording these impressions in a journal. No need to be a skilled artist for this! The course is open to people of all artistic levels and will focus on the connections and joy we can experience when we hone our skills of quiet observation and artistic expression. \nThe workshop will start with a small welcome game outside and then move inside for some journaling games and warm-up activities. \nEveryone will head outside and have a quiet time journaling and then come back together to share. \nIt is recommended children under the age of 10 years old have a guardian to help them. \nThe course will be led/facilitated by Jolie Simpson\, who oversees the Farm to Table programme at the Motueka Steiner School. SUMMARY:Edible Bicycle Tour - Stoke & Nelson
DESCRIPTION:Take a bicycle tour of public orchards and a delightful private backyard garden project in central Nelson. John-Paul Pochin (Urban Farmers)\, Kelli Campbell\, and Rachael Curson (Whakatū Food Sovereignty Project) will be your guides\, describing food harvesting opportunities on public land as well as learning how to turn your garden into a food-growing paradise. Kelli will also outline a fruit tree mapping project that will draw on reports from local volunteers. \nThis is a hop on-hop off tour\, in which attendees are welcome to join for a part of the journey. \nThe edible bicycle tour will begin at 10am at Ranui Park with a 45-minute introduction and finish with a picnic at Branford Park at around 1pm. Stops will include Victory Community Garden\, various public fruit trees and orchards and a private garden. SUMMARY:Growing a Forest - Come and get inspired - Moutere Valley
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to an eight-year revegetation project in the Moutere Valley. \nSince 2017 Philip and Jenny Leith have been revegetating gullies on their farm\, extending and creating new wetlands as well as establishing biodiverse habitats. \nIn 2025 they decided to link two gullies by planting a podocarp forest to create an extended habitat and to act as a seed source for the 20 or more gullies already planted on their farm. \nThey invite you to share their vision for why they undertook this work and how restoring our wetlands and land helps regenerate biodiversity and the climate\, as well as their practical experience\, to inspire you and begin your own land restoration journey. \nThe visit will take you walking up Moore Road\, which is also known as ‘Weka Walk’\, where the group will view plantings at various stages of establishment. \nAlongside planting and maintenance of the wetland and forest habitat\, Philip and Jenny are undertaking extensive predator trapping. Currently capturing at least 10 predators every week. Regularly\, they host school groups and students from Whenua Iti Outdoors for experiential learning. \nThey open their place with pleasure\, but would greatly appreciate your registration here. DESCRIPTION:The (very short) Annual General Meeting\, at 6.45pm\, will be followed by our usual meeting\, at 7.30pm\, with speaker\, Raewyn Peart\, Policy Director at the Environmental Defence Society (EDS). Her topic will be – “The environment in election year: opportunities and threats”. \nEDS seeks to protect and restore Aotearoa New Zealand’s outstanding landscapes\, freshwater systems\, oceans and indigenous biodiversity. They do this through holding business and government to account\, strengthening the law when it is found wanting\, and supporting good environmental management practice. \nRaewyn heads EDS’s environmental policy work. She has over 30 years professional experience in environmental law and policy\, having worked as a resource management lawyer and policy adviser to business\, government and the not-for-profit sector. Raewyn has published widely on coastal\, marine and other environmental issues. In 2023\, Raewyn was awarded the prestigious RMLA Outstanding Person Award. \nAll are welcome to join us. DESCRIPTION:Guided Tours of Permaculture Properties in Nelson\, Tasman and Golden Bay an addition to the National Permaculture Hui 2026\nWe will be visiting many exemplary selected homesteading properties which demonstrate a diversity of features showcasing permaculture principles in action – including water management systems\, food forests\, integrated animal systems\, super-productive organic gardens and cosy aesthetic homes constructed with ecological building materials.
