SUMMARY:Fairfield House Talk: A Slender Path To A Thriving Future
DESCRIPTION:How do we create a long-term “happy place” on Earth? \nWhat agency do we have to shape it? \nAnd what exactly is the “Hope Attractor”? \n  \nJoin Lindsay Wood for a thought-provoking and visually engaging presentation at Fairfield House\, exploring his journey through emerging science\, climate policy mapping and the search for practical hope. \nDrawing on decades of experience\, Lindsay will discuss the meaning behind the Hope Attractor\, a computer-simulated future scenario developed by the Cascade Institute in Canada. He will also explain why viewing climate challenges through a wide-boundary lens can help us navigate an uncertain future. \nAfter the presentation\, you’re warmly invited to enjoy light snacks\, soup and an informal catch-up with other locals who are passionate about climate action in Nelson Tasman. \nA career architect\, Lindsay was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2024 for services to environmental sustainability and climate change. He is the director of Resilienz Ltd.\, where he works as a sustainability consultant\, and shares insights on climate change through his newsletter and radio programme. \nPlease register HERE. \n\nThis event is part of Climate Action Festival 2026. SUMMARY:Permaculture Possibilities: Discover\, Design and Transform Your Space
DESCRIPTION:Curious about permaculture? Whether you have a large property\, a suburban backyard\, or just a small garden\, this workshop will introduce you to a practical design system that helps create productive\, resilient and beautiful spaces while working with nature rather than against it. \nDuring this engaging introduction\, you’ll discover the ethics and 12 principles of permaculture and learn how they can be applied to everyday life. Through permaculture you can improve soil health\, conserve water\, grow food\, increase biodiversity\, foster stronger\, more resilient communities\, and design landscapes that are both abundant and low maintenance. \nThe second part of the session is interactive and tailored to you. Participants are encouraged to bring photos\, sketches or simple plans of their property to explore its unique challenges and opportunities. In these one to one sessions\, we’ll discuss practical ideas and design solutions that can help transform your space\, no matter its size or stage of development. \nWhether you’re interested in growing more food\, creating a food forest\, attracting wildlife\, reducing maintenance\, or making your property more resilient to a changing climate\, this workshop will provide inspiration to help you get started. \nNo previous knowledge of permaculture is required\, everyone is welcome. \nPlease bring a plate of food to share. \nThis is a free community event. A koha is warmly welcomed to help support the Climate Forum in continuing to offer educational events for our community. \nRegister HERE \n\nThis event is part of Climate Action Festival 2026. SUMMARY:Closing Night: How to Live on Earth
DESCRIPTION:This year’s closing film is a visually stunning and hopeful film that shows us glimpses of a future in which nature thrives\, and so do we. \nNarrated by Benedict Cumberbatch\, How to Live on Earth takes us around the world to meet remarkable people exploring how we can live differently by treating nature as an ally\, instead of something to be exploited. From forest rangers and former office workers to Indigenous rights activists\, their stories invite us to consider our own power to make a difference. How can we feed ourselves sustainably? How can a community persuade political leaders to clean up local rivers? What happens when ordinary people decide to take action? \nTo round out the evening\, there will be a raffle packed with locally sourced and sustainable prizes\, generously donated by community-minded businesses and organisations. \nWhether you’re already part of the climate action community or simply curious about what’s possible\, come along to connect\, be inspired and discover how our own local actions can help shape a flourishing future for Nelson Tasman. \nRegister HERE (soon) \n\nThis event is part of Climate Action Festival 2026.
