The Ministry for the Environment is inviting New Zealanders to share their views on proposed changes to the key legislation regulating waste and litter in the country (Waste Minimisation Act 2008 and Litter Act 1979).
As said by Zero Waste Network Aotearoa, most of the proposals are positive steps e.g. extending producer responsibility: making producers responsible for covering the real costs to collect, sort and transport the products and packaging they put into the market will take the burden off ratepayers and councils. However, the strategy will only work if the waste levy funds are ring fenced for waste minimisation and closely related activities.
