Natural burials – what are they?

September 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Koha

Join Living Legacies Founder Lynda Hannah at the Motueka Natural Burial Park to talk about natural funerals, natural burials, and why they are an environmentally responsible end-of-life choice.

Living Legacies is Aotearoa’s natural funeral company with a sustainable, holistic, and celebratory approach to life, death, and funerals.

Natural Burial Parks are the only sustainable way to dispose of our dead in Aotearoa. Less pollutive than cremation and not wasting valuable land like cemeteries, Natural Burial Parks create forests from burial grounds, and essentially, they represent a natural way of burying our dead, which uses the valuable nutrients in the body to establish new life. They are also a way of remembering our loved ones by creating a sense of permanence in the form of a forest or park, where people can walk and remember those who are buried there. It could almost be described as a way to live forever.

Some questions that may come up:

  1. What is a natural burial? What makes a burial “natural” or unnatural?
  2. What are the environmental costs of funerals? What are the environmentally responsible options for funerals?
  3. What you need to know to organise a natural burial for yourself or a loved one.

What to bring: A folding chair if you’d like to sit. An umbrella and wet weather gear if it’s damp as we’ll be outdoors. A notebook if you’d like to make notes. An open mind and heart.
