Regional emissions targets Group

The Forum has a working group, chaired by Joanna Santa Barbara, on establishing emissions targets and strategies for achieving them. Actions and strategies are developed in collaboration with other Forum working groups and other parties.

This group also engages directly with councillors and staff of Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council to promote the adoption of these targets and strategies.

Purpose and scope

To establish and maintain emissions reduction targets for the Nelson-Tasman region consistent with New Zealand’s commitments under the Paris climate accords.

To use authoritative sources to derive and compile information on actions, strategies and scenarios for reducing emissions within the Nelson-Tasman region, in a format that lends itself to being adapted for other regions.

To lead the Forum’s advocacy to NCC and TDC—

  • For adoption of the Forum’s recommended target
  • For implementation of actions to reduce emissions in line with the agreed target
  • For reporting regularly to the community on progress.

To advance the public’s engagement with and understanding of the relevant issues

The Climate Action Book

The Nelson Tasman Climate Forum offers this plan for every citizen of our region — for individuals, households, businesses, farmers, schools and colleges, religious organisations, councils and iwi. We also hope to help other parts of Aotearoa to develop their own Climate Action Plans and contribute to the development of Climate Action Plans around the world.
